Beware! Phishing Scam Emails Claiming Domain Abuse.

Urgent - DO NOT download file from hoax email.

We have received a number of phishing emails/malware attempts within the 24 hours, aimed at registered domain owners (see example below) . Less experienced website managers/owners may panic and be tempted to follow the instructions in the email. DO NOT do this - log on to your service provider and independently check the status of your domain.

The phishing email will say something like:

Dear Sir/Madam,

The following domain names have been suspended for violation of the [internet service provider] Abuse Policy:

Domain Name: [domainname.com]
Registrar: [registrar]
Registrant Name: [your name]

Multiple warnings were sent by [internet service provider] Spam and Abuse Department to give you an opportunity to address the complaints we have received.

We did not receive a reply from you to these email warnings so we then attempted to contact you via telephone.

We had no choice but to suspend your domain name when you did not respond to our attempts to contact you.

Click here and download a copy of complaints we have received.

Please contact us for additional information regarding this notification.

Sincerely,
[internet service provider] Spam and Abuse Department
Abuse Department Hotline: [USA tel.no.]

The registered information used above is publicly available and chances are that the 'from' address will be similar to that of your service provider. Several service providers/registrants have been targeted and issued warnings about this scam. Please don't be a victim.
